Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 in 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans over 40 years. A torch performer renowned for her smooth, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. Her recording of "Cry Me a River" which she introduced on her debut album, was admitted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award for 1974 due to her performance in Emergency! as Nurse Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year-long acting career began around 1944 with roles in films. These included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. Her final studio album was released in the year 1969. She continued her success in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) in which she appeared with her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her former husband Jack Webb.
